Hollywood actor Elliot Page earlier known as Ellen Page, recently came out and spoke about being transgender. He has openly spoken about who he is as a person and as an artist. He openly says he is transgender and shares how uncomfortable he was before he shared his identity.
We can understand how difficult it must be for a person to live a fake life as they have to hide their identity because of societal norms. Let’s take a look into what Elliot page had to say about him being transgender.
The first and foremost question many interviewers asked Elliot was, Did the discomfort in his body ever go away? He replied, “No, no, no.” Speaking about transgender people, Elliot says, ‘Extremely influential people are spreading these myths and damaging rhetoric—every day you see our existence debated. Transgender people are so genuine. I was anticipating a lot of support and love and a massive amount of hatred and transphobia. That’s essentially what happened.”
Elliot felt disoriented when he had to go for photoshoots, industry interviews, and any projects as he was not showing his true self. On this, he said, “I just never recognized myself. For a long time, I could not even look at a photo of myself,” Page stated.
Last year in December, through his Instagram post, he made a revelation of him being transgender; his post read as, “Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they, and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life. I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey. I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self. I’ve been endlessly inspired by so many in the trans community. Thank you for your courage, generosity, and ceaselessly working to make this world a more inclusive and compassionate place. I will offer whatever support I can and continue to strive for a more loving and equal society.”
Page has worked in many super hit films like Inception, The Last Stand, X-Men and Juno. Although he was doing these films, he said he had panic attacks, anxiety and was also suffering from depression. “How to explain to people that even though [I was] an actor, just putting on a T-shirt cut for a woman would make me so unwell,” he said.
Since his announcement, this has become trending news through which he has gained a lot of followers on social media. People still love him and are appreciating him for being brave and coming out with his true identity. In the Times interview, he said, “It seems like there’s a tremendous weight off his shoulders, a feeling of comfort,” showrunner Steve Blackman, who’s been filming Season 3 with Page and the rest of the cast. There’s a lightness, a lot more smiling.”
GLAAD Director of Transgender Representation Nick Adams said, “Not only is Elliot Page a fine actor but also an advocate for equality and justice who continues to educate the world about who trans people are and about why the current barrage of anti-trans bills promoted by fear-mongering politicians are so harmful and unnecessary.”
We feel very proud to be a part of such a society where people want to accept their realities and face the world boldly. What do you feel about Elliot page? Let us know in our comment section below.
